VINARIA NOBILA | Feteasca Neagra | 2014

Tonight we are going to review a single varietal feteasca neagra wine, which is an indigenous romanian variety with moldovan origins – Feteasca Neagra 2014 by Vinaria Nobila. This is the successor of the famous Feteasca Neagra 2013 wine and it has been oak aged for 24 months. Feteasca Neagra is the most famous grape variety in Romania, one that has not been yet explored at its full potential in Moldova. It can produce quite bold and complex red wines that can be compared to new world cabernet sauvignon, mostly due to their full body and elegant texture, thus resulting in quite distinctive wines, with a pronounced typicity and spiciness. That said, let’s move on to the tasting!

GITANA WINERY | Lupi | 2014

The wine we are going to review today is another Bordeaux-style blend with the label ‘Made in Moldova’ – a wine that has acquired a legendary status over the years – Lupi 2014 by Gitana Winery. Named after a pack of wolves that settled in the area where the grapes are grown, Lupi (which literally means ‘wolves’) is the winemaker’s flagship wine – a blend of cabernet sauvignon, merlot and saperavi, aged for 24 months in big russian oak barrels, followed by another 6 months in american oakwood casks. But enough with the theory part, without further ado, let’s move on straight to the tasting!
